“ Gauge ” in General Relativity : — Second - order general relativistic gauge - invariant perturbation theory —

چکیده
As in the case of the other gauge field theories, there is so called “gauge” also in general relativity. This “gauge” is unphysical degree of freedom. There are two kinds of “gauges” in general relativity. These are called the firstand the second-kind of gauges, respectively. The gauge of the first kind is just coordinate system on a single manifold. On the other hand, the gauge of the second kind arises in the general relativistic perturbations. Through the precise distinction of these two concepts of “gauges”, we develop second-order gauge-invariant general relativistic perturbation theory.

General framework of higher order gauge invariant perturbation theory
Based on the gauge invariant variables proposed in [K. Nakamura, Prog. Theor. Phys. 110 (2003), 723.], general framework of the second order gauge invariant perturbation theory on arbitrary background spacetime is considered. We derived formulae of the perturbative Einstein tensor of each order, which have the similar form to the definitions of gauge invariant variables for arbitrary perturbati...
متن کاملInclusion of the first-order vector- and tensor-modes in the second-order gauge-invariant cosmological perturbation theory
Gauge-invariant treatments of the second-order cosmological perturbation in a four dimensional homogeneous isotropic universe are formulated without any gauge fixing. We have derived the Einstein equations in the case of the single perfect fluid without ignoring any modes. These equations imply that any types of mode-coupling arise due to the second-order effects of the Einstein equations. The ...
متن کاملObservables and gauge invariance in the theory of non-linear spacetime perturbations
We discuss the issue of observables in general-relativistic perturbation theory, adopting the view that any observable in general relativity is represented by a scalar field on spacetime. In the context of perturbation theory, an observable is therefore a scalar field on the perturbed spacetime, and as such is gauge invariant in an exact sense (to all orders), as one would expect. However, pert...
متن کاملGauge and motion in perturbation theory
Through second order in perturbative general relativity, a small compact object in an external vacuum spacetime obeys a generalized equivalence principle: although it is accelerated with respect to the external background geometry, it is in free fall with respect to a certain effective vacuum geometry. However, this single principle takes very different mathematical forms, with very different b...
متن کاملPerturbations of spacetime: gauge transformations and gauge invariance at second order and beyond
We consider in detail the problem of gauge dependence that exists in relativistic perturbation theory, going beyond the linear approximation and considering second and higher order perturbations. We first derive some mathematical results concerning the Taylor expansion of tensor fields under the action of one-parameter families (not necessarily groups) of diffeomorphisms. Second, we define gaug...
